LEGOLAND Windsor Resort (United Kingdom) — 1996

Opened in 1996 near London, this 150-acre park feels like a British take on the LEGO experience. It’s got that classic UK theme park vibe with a LEGO twist.

Nagoya’s LEGOLAND opened in 2017 and was Asia’s second park. At just 23 acres, it’s the smallest full-scale LEGOLAND park, but what they lack in size they make up for in detail.

LEGOLAND Korea Resort (Chuncheon, South Korea) — 2022

South Korea’s park opened in 2022 in Chuncheon, about 90 minutes from Seoul. At 70 acres, it’s a nice medium-sized park.

Upcoming LEGOLAND Parks

The LEGO Group isn’t stopping at 11 parks. There are at least three more LEGOLAND parks currently under construction in China:

  • LEGOLAND Beijing — Coming soon
  • LEGOLAND Sichuan — In development
  • LEGOLAND Shenzhen — In development

Which LEGOLAND Should You Visit?

Honestly? It depends on where you live and what you’re looking for. If you’re in the US, you have three great options:

  • Florida for the full resort experience with hotels and water park
  • California for the original US park with great weather year-round
  • New York if you’re on the East Coast and want something close

If you’re planning an international trip, Billund is the pilgrimage for serious LEGO fans, Windsor is great if you’re already visiting London, and Shanghai is the newest and most technologically advanced.

LEGOLAND Parks in Europe and Asia

Outside the United States, LEGOLAND parks span from Denmark to Japan, each adapted to reflect local culture and LEGO fandom:

LEGOLAND Billund (Denmark)

The original LEGOLAND, opened in 1968 in the town where LEGO was founded. This 45-acre park is smaller than its American counterparts but packed with charm and history. The Miniland here features LEGO models of famous Danish landmarks including Copenhagen’s Nyhavn harbor and the LEGO House (the official LEGO museum, also in Billund). A must-visit for serious LEGO enthusiasts.

LEGOLAND Windsor (UK)

One of the UK’s most visited theme parks, LEGOLAND Windsor covers 64 acres near the famous Windsor Castle. The park is particularly popular for families with younger children and features exclusive UK-themed lands including the Windsor Castle model made from 1.5 million LEGO bricks.

LEGOLAND Deutschland (Germany)

Located near Gunzburg, this park has a sprawling 64 acres with strong theming around German culture and LEGO engineering. The Ninjago area and the pharaoh-themed Land of the Dragons are perennial favorites. The park also includes a water park and resort hotel on property.

LEGOLAND Japan

The first LEGOLAND in Asia, located in Nagoya. The park incorporates Japanese pop culture elements into the LEGO experience and has a dedicated NinjaGo area. Japan was the first Asian market to receive a LEGOLAND park, reflecting the country’s strong LEGO enthusiast community.

LEGOLAND Korea

Opened in 2022 as the first LEGOLAND in Korea, located in Chuncheon. This park brought the LEGOLAND experience to a market with a highly engaged LEGO fan base and strong family culture.

LEGOLAND Shanghai (China)

The newest full-scale LEGOLAND park, opened in July 2025. Located in Shanghai, this park incorporates Chinese cultural elements into the LEGO universe and represents LEGO Group’s largest investment in the Asian market. It features eight themed lands and is considered the most technologically advanced LEGOLAND park to date.

Which LEGOLAND Park Has the Best Events?

Each LEGOLAND park runs seasonal events throughout the year. LEGOLAND Florida’s holiday celebrations are particularly well-regarded, featuring Christmas events, Brick-or-Treat for Halloween, and summer brick parties. Other parks have their own regional events — LEGOLAND California’s Halloween event and LEGOLAND Windsor’s seasonal programming are notable highlights.

LEGOLAND Hotels and Resorts

Several LEGOLAND parks offer on-site accommodations:

  • LEGOLAND Florida Hotel — Three themed hotels with NINJAGO and pirate-themed rooms
  • LEGOLAND California Hotel — Walking distance from the park with a pool and LEGO theming
  • LEGOLAND New York Resort — Has the largest LEGOLAND Castle Hotel in the world
  • LEGOLAND Deutschland, Windsor, and Billund — Also offer resort hotels on or adjacent to their parks

Why LEGOLAND vs. Other Theme Parks?

Unlike Disney or Universal parks, which focus on immersive storytelling through rides, LEGOLAND parks center on creativity, building, and family interaction. The attractions are designed to be enjoyed together — parents and kids ride, build, and play side by side.

The parks also tend to be more compact than major theme parks, making them easier to navigate with young children who might tire of long walks between attractions. LEGOLAND Florida tickets and discount options are generally more affordable than comparable days at Disney or Universal, making it an attractive option for families looking to experience a themed park vacation without the premium price tag.
